My mom likes to say, “Eating grass-fed meat is a way to get more greens in your diet without having to eat only salads.”

Did you know that nutrition starts under the ground?

 Our organic, non-tilled fields grow a variety of grasses, weeds, and forbs that serve an important purpose in mining and pulling up vitamins and minerals to help balance the soil’s fertility. When our animals eat these plants, they’re adding multi-vitamins, rich minerals, antioxidants, protein and fiber to their diet. Ultimately, all that goodness goes into your diet when you order meat from The Maker’s Meadow!

Watch the animals make a run for today’s fresh salad bar and see all the greens you’re getting in your diet!

The very weeds you may work hard to get rid of in your yard are the very ones we LOVE to see in our fields due to their nutritional content.

Weeds get a bad rap but look at how nutrient-rich they can be!

Thistle =Calcium, potassium, vitamin A, fiber, protein, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, copper, zinc

Dandelion =Calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, zinc, B-1, B-2, B-3 and C along with beta-carotene

RedClover =Calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, and zinc as well as vitamins B-3, C and E

Plantain =Potassium and vitamin

Chickweed =Calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, silicon, sulfur and zinc as well as vitamins B-1, B-2, B-3, C, and E. Chickweed is also a rare plant source of essential fatty acids

The greater variety of plants in our meadow, the greater the nutrient-density for you. And we have way more plants in our field beyond those listed above. So if anyone tells you that you’re not eating enough greens, show them this video! :)
